Transmission issue. Needing some info.

There are two part numbers for the upgrade kit, depending on which colour engine you have because a rear casting is replaced. Triumph denied the existence of the kit to my dealer until I gave them the part numbers. I believe ending in 8 is a silver engine,9 is black.

My Vin ends in 358169, so that makes it out of the range and a later model '08?
If that's the case then I have a "perfect" R3. Wow, that's never happened to me before. LOL
I've been keeping track of the recalls and secret little bulletins as much as I can from listening to guys here, and mine always seems to fall outside the parameters for the "genetic disorder" discussed.

Maybe my trans noise is just normal "big gear" noise. It hasn't let me down so far, Knock on wood. :rolleyes:

I waited till after the 500 mile breakin period, like a good boy, to jump on it.
The very first time, it jumped out of 2nd gear under hard acceleration.
I researched here and on .com to find the kit info.
The kit fixed the 2nd gear popping, but added a new, lasting problem;
the driveline has slop in it. At low revs in 1 thru 3, when you twist the throttle quickly, the bike jerks.
This is especially annoying accelerating through slow turns.
It really sucks, but there's nothing to be done about it.
I asked the tech and he said the parts go together only one way.
They fixed the popping by halving the number of engagement dogs on the synchronizer, or what ever the hell ring it is.

You just have to look at the size of the gears in an R3 to see why it clunks, rattles and bangs .....

Looks more like the guts from a dump truck tranny than a bike. :eek:
