Transmission issue. Needing some info.

"This info is so that people don't read this and think I am disappointed in my Rocket." I ride a TTS supercharged triumph. I have had NO problems with it ever. And it has been SOOOOOO good that if it blew all to pieces today it would have served me well. I weight 375 pounds and I ride it like I stole it. With that disclaimer out of the way, here is my current issue..

Several weeks ago I was riding and I twisted the throttle and it felt like it missed. It jerked really bad and then everything was ok. Later that day it did it several more times. Once or twice it actually felt like there is a tooth off a gear.

I dismissed it as bad plugs or wires. I replaced them and it seemed to get better.

However,,, This weekend i carried it to Deals Gap and run the sh!T out of it the whole weekend. I have narrowed it down to something i cant quite understand. It isn't missing. It is somehow somewhere in the tranny jumping over a tooth at low rpm (hard accelerating) in second gear. I don't think it will do it in any other gear. Can someone explain what I am feeling. Where could this tooth hop be taking place? Or am I wrong, is it some mystery ignition issue. I never hear a backfire, And it seems only to do it at the bottom of the rpm curve when throttle is applied vigorously . If I roll into it easier it wont jump.

It's more likely the clutch is slipping than a tooth on a gear. Sometimes when I shift using the clutch under a heavy load, the bike feels like it's jerking a little.
Do you use the clutch when you accelerate hard or just shift?

this jolt would happen with your hand off the left grip. It wouldnt be the clutch. I have a video I am editing that has it hapening . Ill upload it to you tube and post the link back here for people to watch.

I believe that several recipients of the up grade kit have had similar issues.

It's worn dogs on the gears. Usually starts with 2nd gear, slipping off one dog and catching the next. Eventually all the dogs on 2nd will be worn, and you will have no 2nd gear... been there, done that.

Yes, the "upgrade kit" fixes the problem by replacing all gears with new design that has one less (but "beefier") dogs. IMHO Triumph should be FN ashamed for not making this a mandatory recall. If they don't cover you under warranty (even with supercharger) file a complaint with the Feds.

Hombre, once again as you have several times. You have saved the day. I have a pretty good dealer. Hell ,the owner was the one that printed the TTS page out and handed it to me when I bought the bike.... Its getting cold outside anyway so now would be a good time to have them update it. What TSB or Service Campaign do I need to mention to get started in the right direction? Also , I would guess that I would have to remove and carry my engine to them to do the upgrade.

Actually I think Triumph denies that there is a program (or a problem). I understand that they now say they only make the "upgrade" as a good faith gesture, and often deny labor costs.

However, have your dealer talk to several other "good" dealers (perhaps Baxters), and it will become readily apparent that all are aware of the transmission "upgrade" kit. Might take some arm wrestling to get parts and labor covered, but Triumph has done that in the past, even when out of warranty.

It's a known problem... and should be a recall.

I had this done March 09. Excerpts from various threads on several forums.
Note the part numbers for the upgrade, proof that it exists:

I do not know what all the parts are they put in but the receipt says Part # T1000009 - Kit Upgade X - $195.88; #T1270800 - Damper Torsion - $368.99; & T3330199-Qty16 - screw pan head - $1.46. The ones he mentioned were 2nd gear, dampner torsion shaft ROLLER (not ball) bearings, and sparkplug wires. The vin range was up to 337294 The part no. for a black engine is t1000008 and the silver engine is t1000009. The shop did not know if this covered bikes out of warranty. JRock, what was yours doing to warrant the kit?
I also have an '08 and it's been making noise in 1st thru 3rd. It's like there is a bad spot on a gear kind of sound, a clacking while coasting.
The dealer has had it twice and says they can't hear anything, I know thats BS since I showed them in the parking lot. I got the idea they just didn't want to get into it that deep. My complaint is part of the records while it was in warranty so I'm not too concerned. But I was wondering if it could lead to some kind of failure. No one I ride with has said anything about hearing it, so for now it's just me and it's hard to hear anything now over the noise from the TOR's and the triples.
