I will be installing a new set of TORS exhaust on my 06 R3, and was wondering if it would be detrimental to the bike if I road it and put a couple of hundred miles on it before having the ECU re-mapped next week? My dealer cannot get me in until Tuesday, and I have a ride planned for Saturday with some friends...I guess I could wait to to install the TORS, but it's hard for me to leave that shiny new chrome just sitting in my garage instead of seeing it on my bike...

The Triumph tune installed at the dealer for aftermarket exhaust just closes the secondary throttle plates a little more. You actually sacrifice power by restricting airflow to richen the fuel mixture with that program.
It doesn't make much sense when you think about why you pay good money for a high flow exhaust, only to restrict the airflow going into the engine. Before I knew what the Triumph tune actually did, I had it loaded when I put on my exhaust. I could feel the power loss on the ride home and called the dealer back to complain. After the svc manager told me it was normal because of the throttle plates, I immediately ordered a PCIII, triple K&N's and yanked out the secondary plates.

I rode the bike around for a week with the new exhaust before I got an appointment at the dealer. That's why I noticed that the power gain from the exhaust was cancelled out by the Triumph tune further closing off ore intake air-flow. If I had done my homework here on this site prior to doing any work on it, I would have never wasted my money having the dealer install the tune. That money could have gone toward the PCIII.

If you still want to have the tune installed, a week of riding it didn't hurt anything for me. Slightly lean conditions do their damage over time so I doubt it would hurt anything as long as you aren't cruising at a constant speed for long periods. Varying the throttle as you would during break-in should take care of that (and be more fun).:D

I had the same problem ( a long trip and my dealer couldn't get me in ) and ended up ordering a PC III and using their tune for the TOR set up, which worked great. I am now glad that I bought the PC III because I have since went from the TORs to Jardines and already had the PC III in place..
