Thanks to the generous donation of a pillion seat plate by Sully I have created a quick release topbox. The box and adaptor plate are from a Honda TransAlp and is big enough to accommodate two full face helmets. The box is quick release anyway, but the adaptor and pillion seat plate is only held on by three bolts and can be removed completely in 60 seconds. I shan't use it often but I'm planning a European trip this summer.

Surely someone must have done this mod before but I hadn't seen it. Pity the box isn't black.

Take that box down to a car painting place and they could paint it for you very inexpensively. It would be easy for them to match the paint/gloss of your bike.

Good Job BTW! Looks very sturdy and secure!

Good idea Zaphod! I was thinking of doing something simillar to my Leatherlyke topbox. The leatherlyke box comes with a padded backrest for a pillion but i was thinking of 'velcro'ing an extra padded backrest on it as well so the rider could have back support when riding solo and the pillion benefits when its put on the standard rack behind pillion seat. The other benefit is you can put in much heavier things in your top box than panniers.

Hi Zaphod

This is my take on the same idea.....

IV since added a big old HD's Quick release backrest to the rack.... I used the three pillion fixing points under the seat, but as you can see, iv added two side supports to aid stability. These are slide on. I used two HD’s quick release screen washers as guides on two longer gutter bolts.

I can now either just cargo net stuff to the rack, or as I did last weekend for the Britbutt rally used an Oxford expanding tail pack….

I have fitted the big Givi topbox to it in the past and that worked a treat…. (But I had to take it off, my mate wanted it back… .). And finally iv an aux tank half finished, that will mount to the rack, with a matching rack built into the top of it.

Well that’s the plan so far….

Now that is a smart solution. Mine was just a quick and dirty kludge.

But now I've gone and traded in my Standard Rocket for a Classic with the double seat. So my top box fix is on the shelf for now.

Does anyone know if a standard seat also fits the Classic? It looks as though it should do.

Hey Z I got tired off the Triumph sag bags and switched to Hepco & Becker removable hard bags they make the side bags in 30 and 40 liter (I bought 30 liter so the back was the same width as the handle bars.) The trunk is 45 liter with backrest and chrome luggage rack. You just order the universal mount and mount it to the Triumph luggage rack ( just leave the Triumph sissy bar off) in my opinion they are worth there weight in gold plenty of room they all key lock on and they make the side bag mounts for the rocket. maybe because you are closer to Germany you can get a better price!

****, I bought an extra pillion three years ago for that-just never got around to it! You inspired me-make a "how to" and get her sticky'd 8)
