I know this is a "Beat to Death" subject, and honestly as a Librarian I spent some time searching the forum as well as google but after spending a half hour going in and out of tire threads I will just ask and see if someone can help. I just want a basic list of what my options are other than "Darkside" (no insult intended) or "Metzlers."

Waking up about 100 miles from home yesterday I decide to do the proverbial "Pre-Flight" check and immediately observed that my rear Metzler had about a half an inch of a shiny band of steel belt surrounding the tire. I made it home ok utilizing my best restraint in regards applying torque and checked my logs to see how many miles I had on that tire as I thought I had just bought it-ok, time does fly! I put it on in July of 2014 and it has exactly 8,263 miles on it. I have never smoked the tire, but do like to use the torque I am still making payments on, and when I feel John Law is absent will ride 100 mph plus.

Is this what I should expect out of a MC tire? Will I get more out of a different brand?

Avon Cobra's seem to be what is discussed on the threads I researched but being in a remote location I worry that all I will have available to me is what my Triumph shop has.

bridge max. and the avon cobra. i went with the bridgy its a little taller being a 55 instead of a 50.
no body likes the metz.
i am experimenting with the bridgy with pressures trying to get more mileage and better wear i am down to 30 psi and will try that for a while. my weight is 165 and i keep one side bag full.

Bridgestone Excedra Max 240/55-16 and Avon Cobra 240/50-16 are your only options. I got 5,500 miles out of my original Metz and haven't touched one since. To be honest though, I haven't used either of the other two neither. :)

Thanks Turbo...I run Bridgestones on my pickup and get a lot of mile off of them. I am a bigger guy at 220 but thought you should always keep them at prescribed pressure regardless.

I like your grit sir! I would not rule out a car tire...but will try out another brand of MC tire first...my major complaint is the low miles on the MC tire...I am only a librarian not a doctor and am figuring out quickly this is a hobby for the moneyed-up crowd!!

Just bringing a little humor to the "Tyre" question. Funny how you all spell it wrong. Lol

I don't have $ to waste either that is why I went Dark.
2-Rockets in 12 years = many tires.
Over 8k on the BFG still looks new. Torque will chew up most any tire. I got 20k out of first DS.

The Bridgey / Avon combo seems popular on this site. Good luck
