This is NOT how to ride a motorcycle

Dang! The photos are awesome examples of the dynamics within a crash like this. Almost better than video. I hope they came out okay though the two flyers may have broken bones somewhere. Dang...

Target fixation causes so many accidents in any activity that involves motion. I remember in my hang gliding days there would huge landing zones with a tree in it somewhere that was very easy to avoid and inevitably someone would hit it. It was comical unless of course the person was injured. I was riding the Rocket up highway 1 north of Bodega Bay on some serously twisty portion of the road and went into a right curve just a bit too fast, easy to do with the Rocket. I found myself over the line and heading straight for a motorhome. It was very difficult not to keep looking at the motorhome but I knew I needed to look where I wanted to go in order to avoid hitting it. Our natural reflexes are often NOT our best friend and need to be trained out of us.

Then again our own ability to avoid target fixation is only half the story. If the other guy has it on you then you are still going to crash, as that sequence of pictures so graphically shows. Ouch!

Looks like the HD was nearly at a stop. Forward movement of front tire vs shadows is almost nil.
He probably saw the ST and figured slowing down would be enough then couldn't get out of the way when it didnt' work out.
Agree on target fixation for the ST.

It's not that I don't think I could do the dragon well, not fast, but well...it's just the other numskulls that out there that either are in my lane or trying to run me down....just not gonna go there.

I agree. This is my buddies street glide taken two weeks ago near the Dragon. Same thing panic induced target fixation. Bike went right where he was looking. He and his pillion were unhurt other than ego. And very lucky the terrain offered a survivable landing zone!
