2004 Rocket 3
I decided to post it here as a future memoir for the members present and these to come of what it takes to have a Rocket brought back to full operational life.
This bike has been damaged and neglected for a couple of years in the north of France. Just acquired a new tank and starting off with stuff I want/need to change to make it my own.

Had dozens of bikes in the past. T7 World Raid, r80gs, r1100rt, r1100gs now. This three cylinder conundrum is really something else :)

True that Turbo but is there a STANDARD forum? If yes i apologise for creating this post here - is there a possibility to move a thread or point a place more appropriate?

I took a look at the forums and doesn't look like a good forum to post (should have done that b4 i posted.
the only thing that i see is the forum (general tech talk)
i guess if some one complains then have them find the correct forum

That is a older one for sure. You can see it still has the old style sump pan on it.
You'll want to change it. To the newer style even a black one will fit.
Nie kumam :)

Don’t get ya mate - is that bike older than 2004? Thats what was in the papers.

In what way is the later pan better? IF that’s what you meant.

No it is one of the very early 04 models. One of the first updates triumph did to the engine was the sump pan.
They relocated the screen pickup for the oil scavenger pump. This made it so no matter which way you leaned the bike it still had one screen scavenging oil to send back to the tank.
Anyways another good reason to change it is so you can see how the front bearing dampening shaft is doing. Triumph had a high rate of the front bearing being installed backwards. This would reduce the oil flow to the bearing and the lifespan. If you see metal in the sump pan your's will already be failing.

Not trying to scare you. Just pointing out the sump pan the rest is just things you'll want to look at while you're changing to a updated pan. The gasket for the pan might be above 20 bucks now I'm not sure.

Certainly worth a visit. Thanks for the heads up.
The pan gasket is seeeeemingly new and red and no that is not silicone. Dunno of anyone has been there before and for what reason.

Also wonder with these early bikes and their later potential updates - IF, and that is one big if, the bike had any work done in warranty or claimed afterwards do you think it is possible to see in their records after all these years when checked against my VIN?

Were the pans updated by Triumph themselves or was it rather owners preventive attitude typically?

Bloody carnage in these pictures :/ so how do I get to these screens and check for debris? Or maybe it makes more sense to open the current oil filter and see what’s inside?
OR is the best way to check it take the belly pan off anyways?

Also read somewhere in the forum these had a high rate of gearbox issues and no, not related to the detent spring. Rounded cogs and clips being pushed out of their grooves resulting in catastrophic failure and lockage.
Probably IF any job has been done on it ever that should also have been recorded by Triumph somewhere.
Will go and ask the local dealer.
