So - Fitted. Les supplies a longer front bolt - I fitted a longer on on the rear as well - made fitting a lot easier. It's a tight fit!.
The inside of the BIG AIR 'OLE is visible from the outside - and I gave it a dusting over with Black PlastiDip to hide the yellowy look of the Aramid. I missed a bit even so.
I super-glued the rubber seal in place - peace of mind.
The grey you can see is the overflow bottle.
So then road test. 15ºC.
The tiny bit of "chirping/whistling" remains - My Claw was already sound deadened.
I think the next attempt at chirp reduction will be a baffle behind the RAMAIR FILTER - between it and the tank.
It does just touch the rear part of the Ramair filter - but so did a lined Triumph bearclaw.
No discernible change in how the bike runs until JUST UNDER 4000rpm. And then it seems to literally take a second breath.
It's more noticeable if you're cruising along and gently wind open, than quick squirts, as if the air has to start flowing through before you can really draw on it.
In top gear this means you're cracking the ton before it's really noticeable.
As Les has commented to me - running with deflectors could mean a reduction in RAM effect - then again so does the coolant bottle.
But at 4000rpms there's enough demand to generate airflow that does not pass over the engine or radiator.
I think those who put form before function will want to smooth down mould lines and maybe have it painted - I can live with it.
On mine - the cable support on the Fog lamp mounts just touches the inlet - BUT my screen mounts are not standard and this may well be the cause.
I'm having to re think how I'll fit bigger Fog-lights. But nothing is certain anyway.
