Temperature bars don’t change ?

The bars on my dash that show engine temp are always in the same position.
The moment the engine cranks over it shows 4.5 bars. Stays the same if I ride it all day.
Any ideas ?

Gotta be a crook sensor doesn't it? No idea of where that is though.

Mine is on 4.5 bars riding too, but I'm sure Rick111 is referring to the fact it shows 4.5 bars at start up.

I see that no one is answering up
All of my knowledge is on the early ones
But going to guess at how it works.
I think that the ecu is feeding 5 volts to the temperature sending unit (because it is also feeding other units is why it is dropping the volts to 4.5) so i am thinking that the unit is either has a broken resistor or a bad ground wire going back to the ecu or maybe the connector is not on tight.
To sum this up ecu is monitoring the voltage and is not seeing a drop.

4.5 bars for me as well, all day ride.

Is it at 4.5 bars the second you turn the bike on ?

Thank you for the input . Always held 5 bars , added a couple ounces of “water wetter “ and it dropped to 4.5 but stuck there shortly there after . I don’t think it’s related but bears mentioning .
Loose connection or bad relay sounds like a good place to start.

Yeah, that’s not right. I’ll check mine tomorrow but it starts up low, 0 or 1.
