If they start doing tv ads the price of a new Triumph will be a lot more.

You're right, but I think I'd have happily paid an extra 1k for my (used) Rocket for a better dealer network. As it stands even long time riders still don't recognize that the brand is putting out new products. I actually had one guy in Texas think that I had restored my Rocket from back in the 60's or 70's because Triumph wasn't making bikes anymore. That blew my mind. Triumph really needs invest in establishing a footprint. It's grating as hell to say that they need to invest in anything besides their designs and materials, but I think it's necessary or they're just going to dry up in the states again.

I think(constantly) that the Harley Phenomena is the result of good Marketing but also the subliminal effect of the barrage of exposure to the product, via the inclusion of Harleys as props in the advertising of other products, how many times do you see Harleys in the background for promotion of clothing, music videos, used as prizes in Raffles ,and the attention they get in traffic every one Knows the sound of a Harley, you cannot go almost anywhere and not hear one ,and the connection they have with the "bad Boy" image that leads to the Must have one motivation, people are identified as owning a Harley , at the truck depot I wasn't known for my truck it was "you know Ken the bloke with the Harley" :banghead::banghead:

Also this! The fact that the Bonnie is so iconic and unchanged doesn't help them at all either. If you're paying attention they're actually all over the place in Hollywood from movies to photo shoots, but because they look so wonderfully retro, most people think that it's a restored bike rather than the latest model. It would be great if they could start getting some of their other line up into film. The Rocket and the Triples are unique enough (from a tech and visual perspective) that I think people would really notice if they could get them in a high profile flick.

And they desperately need to update their ****ing website! (Though props on the bike build tool, haven't found one like it yet)

Hate to say this, but Triumph will never be a serious threat to Harley here in the States. Triumph could double their sales and they still wouldn't be much of a threat. I suspect American made (theoretically) bikes will always be the market leader here unless something drastic happens. As an example, look at the automobile industry...there are some automakers from all over the world that market pickup trucks (utes) here and have for years...they market / advertise heavily and several are actually made here...that doesn't stop Ford and Chevy from kicking their @ss in sales though

I bought my 09 last month and every time i tell people about it i get asked "who makes Triumph?" I Definitely agree, they need to get themselves out there more.

Maybe the Triumphs were so popular they had all sold out?;)

Being a salesman he's gotta try and sell you something....
No they were not sold out but in the past I have heard not very good things about them

I know a couple of the local shops around my folks (W Pennsylvania) have given up their dealerships for Triumph because Triumph is pushing to be more of a "solo product" dealer like HD. They've apparently rolled into these dealers (who sell Ducati, BMW, Suzuki, Honda, etc. along with Triumph) and tell them to give up their other inventory and go straight Triumph. That's not reasonable for most of these places. It's a shame that they can't transition more smoothly. It's going to mean more difficulty for Triumph owners in terms of parts and service. @rainman, what TN dealer were you at?

To my knowledge the number one dealer in the United States for the last eight years is in Brea California (SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA MOTORCYCLES) and they sell many different brands including DUCATI, POLARIS, VICTORY, SUZUKI and maybe more. I think Triumph is doing fine in sales worldwide even though the Rocket is not a big seller. They have steadily grown every year for many years. I bought the Rocket because not only is it a good bike but not many people have one. There are millions of Harleys and Hondas and I like to be different, the Rocket lets you get a quality bike and still be different.
