Hi everyone,

So I've spent the last couple of weeks trying to fix my high hanging idle when I start up the engine. Happens when cold or hot, everytime I start her up.

It will go up to about 2000, then about 1800, then hang for a short while, then got to idle.

I have tried just disconnecting the cable from the stepper motor and that eliminates the high idle but doesn't idle as solid.

I have also taken the stepper off but still connected and doesn't have the high idle and I've also tried stepper off and disconnected with no high idle. So 3 different methods, all eliminating the high idle at start up.

Does anyone know what this may point to? Only when everything is in place and correctly set is when it happens. Could it be the TPS or the stepper or idle screw. I just can't figure this one out guys.

Many thanks. P.S thanks for your patience with me.

Only other thing I can suggest is an Air Leak after the Theottle Bodies maybe sealing with expansion.. or a Vaccum Hose fitting ??

You could try checking all fittings..

Thanks Densell, I can't see any problems in respect to that, but I could be wrong.

I've checked all conections on throttle bodies but it idles fine disconecting the stepper. Maybe a problems with the shaft under the rubber cover on the stepper?

Wrong signals being sent to ECU maybe

Just thinking aloud here..
Could it be related to the starter relays you fitted a while back, unless I am mistaken the stepper motor would be voltage variable and a loss or surge may effect it momentarily maybe..

Just a shot in the dark..

Rocky ya running 2 posts on the subject the other under STEPPER MOTOR..
Stick with one mate so we can follow the progress please ???

Mine does something similar when it is cold. It only revs high for a few seconds then drops a bit then drops down to normal idle. It's done it since I bought it and I assumed it was a normal automatic choke thing.
Am I reading that this is not a normal sequence or is it that yours is idling high for too long?

I stand corrected, sorry, will keep to one post in future.

This was happening even before the second relay fix/install.

Also, I really don't think it's normal, as the high revs are somewhat longer in duration than one would normally expect. Can take up to 10 seconds sometimes till it decides to drop down to normal idle. And when it does drop down, there's no more hanging at all, runs great. It's just the annoying start up issue that's ticking me off at the moment.

It hasn't always been there, just last month or two.

Can you recall what you did prior to this occuring ??

I can only thinkl off checking the voltage settings for the TPS and stepper motor via tuneecu, which are set perfectly and also adjusting the idle numbers in tuneecu to 870 850 850, as before with the triples tune that I'm currently using they were set at the old idle settings of 846 771 750.

Could it be the raised idle settings that are causing this from Waynes original settings, or wouldn't it make a difference?

Mine are

-15 17 38 58 75
1197 976 870 850 850

As for Waynes map setting just load a standard map and try it.. not forgetting to save Wanes map first... if this changes things then compare and adjust the map..
