Mittzy, and everyone,
Thank you, now I have the info to chase one up.

And I now have a Toyota starter from the wreckers, or breakers?
$20! They don't charge like a Triumph dealer.
This weekend it's going on, I think.

Here are the two solenoid plungers side by side (the original Rocket plunger is the shorter one, obviously) I used a Dremel abrasive cut off disc to cut the new one down to size.

Don't want to take a thing away from @Mittzy -- and if I lived anywhere near him I'd buy his cable.

An alternative is to purchase a duplicate ground cable and bolt it on in parallel with the original. The bolts are a tad tight, and one might need slightly longer at either end.

...or take your old one down to the local electrical supply store and have them make you one up with fine strand welding cable. If all else fails, you can weld with it.

The Toyota starter I used - I just pulled the motor assembly away and used that.
Mittzy,

I was thinking of doing that.
that way it could all be done while still in the bike?
As long as I can get at it easy enough.

I would still take it out - 2 bolts and a couple of wires and do the rest on the work bench. Not much room in there esp if you still have standard exhaust fitted.

Mittzy,

I think full removing is the go.

I cleaned up the new old one last night, all looks good but some of the markings and numbers on the DENSO sticker are not the same as in your photo.
Should it all be exactly the same?
Or am I okay to try it and see?

Don't want to break anything :(
