Starter issue.

The headlight only goes out when I hit the start button and the starter actually engages.

I tried reloading the tune and accidentally loaded the wrong one. When I first put the triple K&Ns and Jardine pipes on, I loaded a tune that made my bike idle really high, so I downloaded a different tune that fixed the problem... then today I couldn't remember which was the correct one. The first one I downloaded was the high idle issue tune... but the starter engaged right away with this wrong tune.

When I put the correct tune in my bike, the starter issue reappeared. Is there a recent update for triple k&ns with Jardines?

when you hit the starter button it is normal for the lights to go out. if the starter doesn't crank and the lights do not go out its probably the starter relay not coming on. the computer receives info from sensors like clutch switch, kickstand switch, neutral switch then the computer grounds the starter relay. my best guess would be that you have a problem with one of these or maybe something else.
i don't know beans about those tunes, but i think they might be compensating for the problem that you have.
there are a few people on here that know about those tunes. and if they see this thread they should help. i know that some of these questions sound kind of dumb but the more info you give the better we can help.

So it sounds very much like the tune is the culprit. Never would have guessed that. That's beyond me I'm afraid. Good luck and keep us posted.

So... update.... I found a loose connector... fixed the issue
However..... My headlights do not work. I know the fuse is fine, the starter relay is fine, Headlights are fine. They aren't getting power to the headlights. The little running lights in the bottom of the headlight work, but not the low or high beams.

Glad to hear that you're making progress.

If you have time, pull the headlights and put a meter to the H4 connector. The blue/white wire is the high beam, the blue/red is low beam. See if you are getting voltage there.

The little parking lights have a yellow and black (ground) wire. The fact that they are on indicates that most likely the connector under the tank is good.

If you are getting power to the blue/white and blue/red wires then you may have simply popped the bulbs while messing with the wiring. If no power, then you'll need to check voltage at the dimmer switch.

Good to hear the stater issue is fixed.

Don't you just hate it when you think you're done and another issues pops up.

As tdragger says it could be as simple as blown bulbs. Fingers crossed that's all it is.

The bulbs are fine. Somewhere between the fuse and the headlight connector on the harness there's a disconnect. I'm thinking it's in my left handle bar controls somewhere... it's about the only thing that makes sense. It did hit the road at 50 mph or so, ripped off the end piece.

With the key on, are you getting voltage on the blue wire exiting the starter relay?

The blue wire runs from the starter relay to the dimmer switch and to heated grips if you have them.
