Spam email from Carpenters address

I hope someone notified Bob about his computer being hacked or that someone otherwise got their thieving mitts on his client's email addresses and/or contact info!:banghead:

IFT should ensure that Bob's aware of the attempted chicanery, since he's Carpenter's right hand man.

Interestingly, I opened the email on my phone when I rec'd it, but knew not to open the attachment as the smell of rat was overpowering. Later that evening, my PC (which has accts, like Gmail, linked with my phone) was attempting to load Windows 10, which, again, I knew to shut down since the download was clearly attempted by an outside, third party and I have had no interest in migrating to a flakier platform.

Nice try suckahs!!!

Phil... you oughta read up in Microsoft's latest efforts to get everybody upgraded to W10. They are TRYING to give you no choice but to upgrade automatically.

If you have X'd out of their latest pop-up reminder, without studying it CLOSELY, you will find that you have "agreed" to the upgrade.

It's necessary to find the tiny lil' link in their pop-up if you wanna postpone or cancel.

MS's argument is that the upgrade is free until July 29th, thereafter will cost $129.... so they reckon they're doing you a favour.....

I hear what your smoking, Russ.

Also, before MS can download their latest iteration, the user has to read and agree to abide by their "fine print" (mandatory disclosure of their rules, regs, policies and procedures) before they can do the deed. Therefore, so long as any user declines to agree to their terms and conditions, the software cannot be downloaded.

Ruzzle, if you're a non-smoker as I suspect you are, then cheers, bruddah!

I upgraded to Win10 last year. You would want to be cautious but it is likely an upgrade offer from Microsoft.

Email is a tricky beast. I use a secure email gateway service for anything incoming or outgoing. The R3Owners.Net server system can't receive or send email without going through the gateway - and everything is encrypted, no insecure email transmissions, not even the automated notifications you receive from this site (until after it leaves the gateway of course).

If Carpenter Racing needs help let me know.

YEP it happened once before no big deal and I did the W10 upgrade we talked about it today

Windows 10 isn't bad. The only issue is that they insist on collecting tons of data on you while you use it, and even sneaking in some ads in the start menu. You can kill the spying if you want with third-party software that shuts it down. The OS itself works fine, though; Microsoft just wants as many people as possible to move to it so they can eventually drop support for the older variants. Frankly, I'd still recommend most normal users to upgrade at this point. Quitting Windows isn't really a viable option for many.
