Snapped Bolt

So, putting on the hagons over the weekend - had my cousin and a mate over to give me a hand since my wrist is still pretty fragile. Got the right side shock on without any trouble, tightened up the lower bolt and then hand the socket wrench to my cousin to tighten the top bolt - turn around to grab a beer and he snaps the bolt head clean off. Thread still in the hole and nothing protruding enough to grab with grips or pliers... :x

Planning to grab a thread tap kit from the hardware store and drill out the bolt, anyone got any tips or a better solution?

I wouldn't care that much, but i've got a ride on this weekend that I organised and would very much like to be there.

Don't know if you could readily find one, but a left hand carbide drill will quite often spin a broken bolt out.
If not, you can still use an easy-out (extractor).

Cheers for the reply, yea I've since been told of ez out - little nervous about the reports of how brittle they are and the pain if that snaps as well - but that will most probably be what I try first.

I felt like shooting him, but since I asked them to give me a hand and I probably wouldn't have been able to muscle it on with myself with my wrist the way it is - I blame myself for letting anyone other than myself touch my bike :rules:

If you have a Dremel tool you can try cutting a slot it the bolt and unscrew it with a screwdriver. It should come out fairly easy with no tension on it.

This is why I currently have 3 bikes all in need of attention in the garage. I'll wait.

Been there done that! just drill a hole in the broken bolt & screw in one of those reverse thread bolt remover bits.Any hardware shop has them.
