Small leak

Just got a new '09 Rocket Touring and I noticed a few drops from underneath one of the over flow tubes especially when the bike sits out in the open in the heat. I thought it was oil but smells like gas. Is this normal?

I am having this same problem. It only leaks if it sits outside in the hot sun for a long period of time. Not a drop in the garage overnight. And it is not just a couple of drops. it is about a tablespoon or two.

Are you guys sure you're not over filling the tank; shouldn't come up over the bottom of the neck. What's happening is the gas is expanding in the heat of the day that's why you don't see any in the garage.

There's no overflow tube for oil, to my knowledge. Try tracing the oil up the tube and see where it's coming from. Check your air box. If you or the dealer overfilled the oil, you could end up with oil in the airbox. Also, check the rear of the engine and see if you see any shiney vertical lines on the black part of the engine. If so, that's oil running down. My R3T developed a headgasket leak at around 3500 miles, IIRC.

Yep, I looked at the svc manual and both rubber hoses are fuel tank vents. One for the tank (check valve inline) and one for the filler neck overflow. Any oil on them started somewhere along their length and most likely from where they touch the frame since they don't touch the motor. I hope it's just a spill and not serious, good luck.

Last night I was able to dig into it some more. Pulled the covers and the seat off. The oil is not leaking down the outside of the hose due to contact with the frame or motor. It is coming out of the hose that has the valve inline.
It does not leak all the time. It has only leaked 3 times in the week I owned it. All 3 times happened when it was sitting in the hot sun at work. When I ride it home, put it in the garage... no leak. It did not leak on the trip from Delaware to CT when I bought it last week. I would ride 125 miles, stop for an 45 min to an hour and continue on... No leak.
It seems to just burp out a tablespoon or two and then stop. Freakin weird ! A leak would leak all the time.
It doesn't seam to be overfilled.
Tomorrow I am changing out the break in oil and filter at the 500 mile mark. I'll make sure I put in the right amount.
Thanks for you feed back guys. Long weekend this week, enjoy the ride and have a safe one.

That is "freaking weird" to have oil coming out of that hose .... especially since the service manual shows it plugged into the fuel tank on the other end, and the valve "one-way" the other direction.
Can't see that much cosmoline getting accidently shoved up the hose.
What color is the oil ... dark, light, clear?
