Has anyone on here used different shocks to lower their R3?

I have been shopping for an R3, and took a 2006 for a test drive on Saturday. This had the basic stock seat on it. I am 5'8" on a good day. with the regular stock seat, I can stand flat footed, but I have to sit so far forward that I get no back support from the seat. The seat on the Classic seams to be a little more forward, but it is stuffed higher, and has me on tippy-toes.

I am thinking I will need to get the Classic with the two-tone paint, maybe change the handlebars to sweep back a little more and lower the bike a little to get comfortable.

Has anyone else made these type modifications?

I hear ya on the ground clearance. I guess I will have to buy thick soled boots with heals, lol.

I need a comfortable seat for my old butt...
 
If you go for the progressives at standard length, beware of the spring type. I weigh about 220lbs and was recomended to go with heavy duty springs. They have improved the handling and I lost that unerving feeling of the back end wandering about, but they are a bit hard for town use.

I guess I could have gone for normal springs and tightened them up bit.
 
I installed the regular 11.5" Progressives last week lowering the seat by 1" and have no complaints.

At 5' 5" 265lbs the new shocks are set at just above the second marking and the result
is an excellent balance between cornering performance and ride.

I ride solo though, so that should be factored in when considering whether to go with
the shorter shocks.

They may or may not be able to handle 2-up with jumbo-sized adults :wink:

I'm getting a new tire put on as I write this, so I should have it back tonight for final
ride adjustments and a test run through some twisties and potholes to see how everything handles now.

If I wanted a 12" STD how do you know which P/N to pick.
