Personally I'd say Progressive 444's first. My bike lost all tendencies to wallow when whipped and is a dream around corners now, and it soaks up road bumps much better. A pair can be had for under $500 from jcmotors.com (I bought mine there). Add $70 for the front springs. The Hagon Nitros are probably great as well and have even more adjustability, but the 444's are great.

D@MN!
You ready for this?
Brace yourself . . .
I AGREE COMPLETELY!

BUTT SHEAR FORCE?!?!
Being interested in physics, I just had to look this one up.
Leave it to a nurse to know this!

shear [shēr]
an applied force that tends to cause an opposite but parallel sliding motion of the planes of an object. Such motions cause tissues and blood vessels to move in such a way that blood flow may be interrupted, placing the patient at risk for pressure ulcers. An example of a shearing force is seen when a patient slumps in a chair; the skin around the buttocks is stretched by the movement and interferes with circulation.
UMM!! Pretty sure Jim will be onto this (Like a fat kid on chocolate cake). And might even read the word Shear in a dyslexic way (Reading Share) SHARE:- the skin around the buttocks is stretched by the movement and interferes with circulation.
hahahaha

What ....... did you think I was making it up.
I have to confess that after spending hours of each week keeping residents in the Nursing home comfortable and positioning them in bed with pillows in the correct positions to avoid the shear forces creating Pressure Sores or Ulcers it was after doing the extra education available about all things in regards to better Nursing that one day I realised it was in fact these very same forces causing the pain created by the shearing force causing firstly the numb bum and then the burning like pain so after some experimenting with different pieces of foam under the sheep skin to find the reason behind the Triumph seats problem and what was needed to correct it, I also while pondering for hours in the shed I happen to notice there were stress signs in the seats covering of the forward pushing shape.
The lighter members possibly would not have this problem as much and also the Roadsters as they take some of their weight on their feet which would reduce the shear forces as well, it is one of the reasons I like the boards as I can relax my legs and reduce the pressure on the cranky knees

This got me thinking some. In the machine shop we used Prussian blue to highlight fine nonconformities in injection molds.
There should be a way to sit on and mark the pressure points of your motor's seat.

Mr. tdragger,
I respectfully and sincerely disagree.
I ran a set of these and IMHO the 412s are merely a skosh better, if at all, than the OEMs.
Both wallow in the twisties when hoonin' and exacerbate danger by intermittent contact into the pavement.
Like most performance mods, spendier is likely to be better.
I believe shocks to be the single most important performance and safety improvement you can do.
Seats are personal choice and fluff. :p:D

I hear ya. I would agree that the 444's are much better than the 412's, however, I was keying in on the OP's statement "that I don't have a bottomless pit of cash" and offering an alternative. I'm not a hyper-aggressive rider so I don't experience the wallowing that you reference. For my style and my budget, the 412's serve me well. Obviously different than your experience.

That's a very good point to keep in mind. I am far from an aggressive rider and am looking more for an increase in comfort than handling for sure.

When you guys keep talking about progressive for the front (here and in other threads) do you mean the brand name Progressive or just progressive in type?

Hagon has their progressive spring and it seems if one were to get the Nitro for the rear then the Hagon progressive would be the choice for the front or are those of you who are running Nitro’s on the back using the Progressive name brand springs in the front? If so I would have to assume those are better than the Hagon progressives?

I’ve pretty much decided on the Hagon Nitro’s for the back and want to be sure I do the right thing in the front. Of course I’m also kicking around the idea of spending much more on the Axxion cartridge setup but probably won’t when it comes time to actually fork out the cash (pun intended).

I run the Progressive brand in the front and have so long before I got my Hagon Nitros, I shied away from the progressive shocks after two Aussies I know had them blow seals then Wayne Tripp organised a group buy of the Nitro's so I went for them, I had been looking at Gazzi's as well but the excellent priced group buy and the Hagon reputation swayed me and have no complaints at all with either end
