The only thing I'd trade my Connie 14 for is the k1600. That is one bad sport - touring machine. But the R3 is completely different. Mine replaces my Valkyrie. Wife loved the Valk so I was authorized to replace when the deer killed it... but in addition to the Connie!

If I had a dollar for every time I read or heard a rider grousing on the BMW transmissions. If one takes the time to learn em' they'll shift as smooth or smoother than any. And over 6 BMWs in 40 years I've never had transmission repair needed. The clunk however going into first from neutral IS simply in their DNA.

I could go on forever about BMWs Duo-lever(Hossack) and Tele-lever (Saxon-Motodd) front suspensions. Hard-line sport guys ***** about "feel" at race track velocities, and purists to aesthetics and Luddites simply cry sacrilege. But the strengths of both suspensions make the 800lb K1600 handle like a sport bike in the twisties and inspires confidence at pedestrian speeds in bumpy/distressed pavement situations. And the 600+lb GSA as easy to handle on or OFF road.

Honda has even been experimenting with a leading link front suspension for their Goldwing because of its innate resistance to "brake dive".

If I had a dollar for every time a BMW addict told me the reason for BMR clunking is because I don't know how to ride... then go on to admit that they **** things clunk...

Been riding 43 years.. had about 30 bikes.. I can ride, and I can shift. If the stars align, the RPMs are right, the BMR will shift smooth. Hell, I loved the bike and said I would like to have the K1600.... I guess if you don't love every aspect about a BMR you aren't a BMR rider.. kinda like a Harley rider.

I'm not saying you don't know how to ride; I've simply met/known scads of riders who came from Jap bikes and simply couldn't make the transition easily, or ever. I've got my gripes about them also; but that's European bikes. They got truckloads of character; But.............
 
Hello and welcome from another of the Aussies, looks like you made a good choice, enjoy the ride. I too have fitted the Avon Cobra front and Exedra Max rear and so far so good....
 

OK, agree, well, my Triumphs have all had character (though the vapor pressure/fuel starvation lock that would happen on my 1200cc Triumphs was a pain, and it seemed very personal) as did my old Hondas (particularly fond of '87-'88 Super Magnas).. new Hondas like my ST1300?.. nope (except I really did love my '01 Valkyrie... Honda did that one right).. like driving our Honda mini-van. It's a van. Now, drive any one of my SAABs.. Maintenance free? Nope... Boat load of fun to drive? Heck yes!

Probably why I'd love to still have the K1200R... it had personality... and it was lightning fast... but too much coin in the stable to keep that one... something had to go.
 
Like my Old Dad used to say " wish in one hand and crap in the other, see wich one gets filled 1st " scats not my thing so i bought a R3R

Direct hook up to the battery via 2 relay sand appropriate sized cabling - best you use the search function to find out more as this is very well documented. Not strange at all.... All Triumph did was take the electrical load from the ignition switch and essentially re routed it through the hi/Lo beam switch. I did a comparison on the before and after (as has many)
