Thought I would give one a go , have a really good friend that is running one on his S3 with good results and to be honest liked the look of them.

I bought one of those filters for my old bike (Yamaha FJR1300) but after looking at it I decided not to use it. I felt that the mesh screen was too porous for my comfort. I don't have anything scientific to back that up with but it just looked like it would pass particles too easily.

I think it would be messy to clean everytime a oil change is needed. Instead of taking the oil filter loose, tossing it, and install a new one.

The Porsche Forum has bashed them to no end. They are too porous and let way too much grit through. Good old pleated paper element spin on is better. Purolator L14612 $3.99 at K-Mart. One of the best rated by Consumer Reports.

true but... when I flew good old radial engines we pulled the oil filters every 50 hrs they were the kind that are washed and returned to duty messy sure but by thinning the sludge and filtering through a cloth you get to know if you make metal and if you do by running a magnet you find out if it is steel or not a life saver procedure on all radial engines I do so on my r3 I cut the filter in half soak it in gasoline and check for metal ,not a life saver but big on money saving should some funny business occurs in the motor
