Hi all,

I was just having a look at R34me pics of Nev's Lockup clutch (nice job). I noticed a chain coming from behind the clutch basket, down to what I presume is the scanenge pump sprocket.

QUESTION: If I am sitting in traffic with the clutch pulled in for long periods, does this mean the scavenge pump stops working, and if so can it do any damage long term?

Cheers

G'day Scott,

I was thinking more about slow riding in stop and go traffic, but anyway I resolved the problem myself :D The Service Manual is a wealth of information

That chain drives the oil pump, the scavenge pump is deep in the motor, so I'm assuming it doesn't stop driving the oil pump when the clutch is in.

I was just having flashbacks to the late 70's with the old Suzuki 500 2 strokes. If you pulled the clutch in the oil pump on those would stop and seizures were common on these.

Cheers!

That sprocket also drives the water pump so it's a dual purpose deal. Oil pump is on the other side of the clutch/tranny wall and the water pump is in front.

That sprocket is driven as long as the engine is running. It is driven off the clutch basket which is driven directly off the crank gear, so all those things are always in motion when the bike is running. Your clutch or transmission setting has no effect on it. Only control you have is throttle input, more throttle and the faster the pumps will go.
