Getting back in after long hiatus (kids, career, house, etc) and am looking for a new riding jacket. I'm sold on armored jackets (leaning towards neon yellow if textile) for safety and visibilty but not sure whether to go leather or textile. Curious as to what you other captains are wearing nowadays.
Check out hit air inflating air bag jacket. My next $500 accessory. Would probably have saved me from my latest surgery to reattach ligaments after headstanding off my Rocket last Sept.
I know that you wanted something in yellow for "visibility" but I always get black or a combo color jacket that matches my bike as close to it as I can get. The reasoning is I (and just about anyone riding a motorcycle) should be riding as if I am invisible because if a driver isn't paying attention....that yellow jacket isn't going to do any better than mine. The responsibility is on us to ride as if the cagers are trying to kill us and ride accordingly.
I bought the Triumph jacket that is in my photo album in case you want to look there. It is a dual use jacket and has a rain proof covering that folds out of a pouch in the lower back to slide over the sleeves and jacket to make it somewhat water proof/resistant and in the cold acts like a wind breaker and is thick.
In the times of the year when the temperatures are warm or hot it can be unzipped and rolled back into it's pouch and you have the advantage of a mesh jacket with some good airflow thru it and it is CE (I think it is called) armored in the back, elbows and I believe in the shoulders.
My Speed four is bright oarnge. I have a bright oarnge alpinestars leather jacket and a oarnge helmet I wear when riding it. I have Just as many cages pull out in front of me as I do on my speedmaster and my RIII weraing all black. All I'd have to reccomend is Leather above Textile. Im my incidents where I have been wearing textile. I've gotten a lot more torn up verses my leather pavement rides! Only thing nice about textiles is they are less cumbersome! JMO
Here's an alternative. From reports on Advrider this is an excellent, although rather expensive, alternative. And they have hi-viz stuff if that's what you're looking for.
