folks,

I have a new set of rubber (both front and rear) coming for my R3. My first set lasted 9600 miles. They are pretty shagged however. I am going with the stock set up this time around. Next time I may go to the dark side. The tires should be popping in any day now. Any thoughts on the best way to jack up the bike? Can you jack up from the engine? I did see the $20 bike stand. Any way to jack it up so both wheels can be off the ground at the same time?

Thanks in advance for any responses!

Bob

Bob are you planning to change both wheels at the same time? You may have a balance problem when that rear comes off. Watch out!! I'd use a motorcycle jack under the motor and only do one wheel at a time. Two trips to the tire changer place is better than a bashed bike.

Or secure it side to side with tie down straps or some other method to secure it from tipping.

I have one of these

stuck the bike on it used blocks to support engine, removed front wheel ( has to be done 1st to allow clearance for rear) then lowered the block a little to remove rear wheel

you could use a jack instead of the blocks but the bike was really solid on this stand and didn't need securing in any way at all, you'd have to be doing some extreme pulling or pushing to make it tip.

In one of my garages I installed anchors in the floor so that I could thread two eye-bolts into the concrete. I would then strap the bike down while I had it jacked up to keep it stable. I don't know if I would go that route with the rocket though. I'm with Jimmy... one wheel at a time. That stand looks good, but they don't appear to ship stateside

although they don't ship overseas it would be a dawdle for any fabricator to put together m8.

If you want I can take some measurements etc and post em up for you to have one made.

I was thinking of having a slightly higher one made up so I could do the rear wheel without takin the front off, cos at the moment I have to remove both to do the rear wheel.

So now we're building a new mousetrap to avoid one more trip to the tire changer shop? Hmmmm. Well at least then you'll have another tool. I love gadgets. I just don't have that kind of time. . . . If I did stuff like that I wouldn't have any more time to post.

That would be awesome. I have a homemade lift for my Daytona, so building another is not out of the question. It would be good to have a starting point. Thanks!
