Rear Shock Life Expendency

Methinks you do not have the heavy duty springs and that is the problem.
My two sons with Harleys and my riding buddy with an R3 all have installed them and love them.
I weigh close to 200 and my wife is well over 130 and we have never bottomed out...at least not on the bike!
 

Bull, I'm interested in your comparison between the two. I'm thinking about some 444's.
 
Well if I may, I've just changed my stocks ones (rear) for IKONS, and I must say that did a HUGE difference. Before I found it very slippery at the back when cornering, now i she is a beauty to drive. Also I've changed the avon rear for a Bridgestone Exxedra. My 2 cents.
 
Don't know about the progressives or 444's, but over here in UK I have just had the front forks rebuilt, (the only original parts are the tubes) by local specialists Maxton suspension. I was so impressed that last month I had the rear shocks changes for their units, I didn't expect to see a great improvement as I was running Hagon Nitro's, a good shock in itself, but the ride now is so much better. I would now always recommend a bespoke suspension build rather than an off the shelf product. Good luck with your hunting and choices folks.

Can't remember how much the Hagons were 2 yrs ago, but I think the Maxtons were about £100 more. I think around £360 for the Hagons & I just paid £480 for the Maxtons, mind I got a slight discount & free colour matching so it would be a bit more expensive I suppose if colouring is needed. I'll post pics to show them but even from the outside they do look a well made product. - Got to go find photo's now.
 
Holy cow! To my determination, your 480 pounds is like $800 US! I paid under $500 for my Hagons and the 444s were about $600.
I do agree that for the most part, we get what we pay for in suspension.
 
You Know, Now you've put it that way I guess Iv'e either got my figures all wrong or there is a bigger price difference than I thought but whatever it is they are worth it & after it's done the last thing to worry about is the money, just enjoy the ride. You are rite though we do get what we pay for.
 
I know a guy who has a lifetime garantee on his shocks...
