I just installed some new rear brake pads a few weeks ago. They were the HH copper sintered ones from NewR3.com. Well anyway a few days ago I was pulling into a store, and was driving very slow through the parking lot and I started getting the strangest vibration through my floorboards. I wasn't using my brakes, so the first thing I thought of was the tranny bearing problem had found my bike. This vibration only happens at 5-6 mph, and no it's not drive train lash. Its a harmonic vibration of a higher frequency, and can be felt heavily through-out the floorboards and handlebars. It also is loud enough to hear as it pulses with the wheel speed. Low and behold I was sure it was that output bearing problem, but to my surprise it was coming from my rear caliper. As soon as I lightly push the brake pedal, noise and vibration disappears!
Has anyone had this happen before with these brake pads? Any ideas on how to keep them from making this noise and vibration. BTW, the vibration is from one or both of the rear pads slightly rubbing on the rotor while moving. I jacked up the bike to see if rear tire was being held by brakes, and that isn't happening. Wheel turns easily.
I'm Stumped On This!
