Hi guys,

Puzzled with this one. My Rocket is only two weeks old and yet to do 800 ks, but I'm getting an unpleasant "grinding" when depressing the rear brake peddle. Has anyone else encountered the same? Any ideas what it might be? Would be most grateful for any light that can be shed.

Regards, Klumpy.

Could be I guess, will check that but the grinding seems a bit too "deep"". More of a grinding / creaking noise accompanied by a little vibration. Many thanks regardless.

klumpy,
Are you SURE it's the brake dragging?
I know thats what you "think" it is.
Thats what it "sounds" like.
Thats what I thought it was too.
If you got your bike idleing with your feet on the ground,
and you rev er up in neutral, no sound right?
Drop er into first and s l o w l y let out on the clutch so she creeps forward a little bit,,,
does she make the dragging sound?
If so your output shaft bearing is shot.
Good luck, I hope its just a brake.

I had one of my rear pads tear right off of the mounting plate with less than 1000 miles on the new stocker pads. Made a terrible grinding sound. Got back there and looked and you can imagine my surprise to see one brand new pad on the left, and just a mounting plate on the right! WTF?

Anyway, I ditched the stockers and got some after market HH sintered pads instead.

Somebody else just very recently did have a stone get lodged, although I would have to say that woudl be extremely unusual given that the pads basically ride/float on top of the rotor, but I guess it happens.

See if you can take a look and identify anything unusual back there.

+1 with Geek_Law, the pad tearing off the backing plate makes for some harsh noise and it will rattle just riding. Easy to check. Check the rotor face and if it's scarred you may need to get it turned. Good luck.

It was me. :D Klumpy, it is easy enough to remove the pads and to check if anything is trapped. One of my pads had two deep scores where the stone had gotten trapped and locked up the rear wheel.

If you're in doubt, it's still under warranty. Bring it back to the dealership.

Thanks guys,

Have managed to establish that it is'nt a shot shaft (praise be) and all appeared better yesterday on my way to short run to work. Will see how I go this morning and consider your further suggestions if any more problems. Wishing all of you a great day!
