Ran out of gas today

Wilbu:

I'm getting the idea that as you try to improve the breathing on the bike, the mileage goes south. I'd think that removal of the cat box would improve the gas flow and improve the mileage. I'd also think that a custom re-map would do the same but it don't. I'll leave mine stock.

I think the reason the mileage goes south is an overactive right wrist playing with that new found horsepower...

I get about the same milage 35 or so and go 200+ between fillups.Milage suffers beyond 80mph.

I haven't had my R3 long and I haven't modified anything to this point.
It only has about 1500 miles on it so far.

I don't think that I have an overactive right hand and I'm getting 25-28 mpg in mixed riding.

I'm hoping that as the bike (and I ;) ) breaks in the mileage will go up to the 35-40 mpg that everyone seems to be getting.

Being as you were only able to put in 4.6 gallons, it sounds like the fuel pump pickup is out of adjustment. If it happens again, try sloshing the tank around to see if there is any remaining fuel left. If you were only able to put in a little over 4 gallons back in when you filled up, you should of had around 2 more gallons left in the tank. Bigern

Hey RatBoy... if your mileage doesn't improve have your dealer re load whatever tune you have in there. A few others have suffered poor gas milage and a bad tune was the cause.

Give it a chance though... it just might need a little break in.

I'm not sure anyone really gets 40 mpg very much of the time but 35 is very common...

Range on a tank

What is the average mileage you all are getting on a tank? My first tank (which the dealer filled) I hit 106 when the fuel light came on. When I filled it I put in about 4.6 gal. Is the reserve suppose be 2 gallons.

We don't have any of those uncircumcised pumps here in Dixie. No peelings to mess with:flame:

I always fill to the filler flange. And I'm always filling with 3.3-3.8 US gallons very shortly after the fuel low-level light comes. That tank float sure appears to be an issue to be resolved at the factory level; versus placing the hassles on us Captains. I believe the book says 6.1 or 6.2 US gal.

I get 33 mph when I'm peeling the throttle back a bit; but only get another 1 mph added if I'm meerly lounging along. I don't drag pegs anymore. I'll let all those low-riders take the lead in the twisties and pass 'em on the sweepers.

Paul - u know for sure the tank was filled? I got 35 mph when the dealer paid for my first fill-up. I filled it.

Nope

I have no Idea how full hey had it, but when I filled it I went up to the flange. So we'll see how far I go this time. When I go in for my 500 mile check up they said they will fill it again and detail it so I will check and see were the level when they do it. I don't know about you all but I sit on my bike and stand it straight up, like some one else mentioned the biggest part of the tank is at the top.
