R3 ram air setup?

That's the one-off Carpenter unit, which is a prototype. Not available to the general market at present and possibly never will be. We'll probably have to wait until well into the next Spring at the earliest before we have a clue.
Is that because it does not have a filter in it and if so all they would need to do is make it a two piece and incorporate one of those Piper-Cross filters surely ?

YES!!!! but is it available for the touring?? I also saw one that had an exposed filter at the front above the radiator.

I don't know if it is available!!
It would be nice to have more options.

No, Hans. The prototype was built by Carpenter Racing's drag strip jockey, Alex. They have run it with good results at the track purposely unfiltered, however adding one would be a very simple procedure.

I'd like to see it go into production, too, but, like I stated before, we're just going to have to wait and see!

It seems the bike they ran at Bonneville had one, would they run without an air filter with all that salt?

The salt ain't jumpin' up in front of the bike, Man, and as you can see from the picture the salt comes up along the centerline from the front wheel! World record runs are made in extremely low wind conditions so atmospheric salt was of little or no concern.

The salt flats at Bonneville were still wet from earlier rains when DiSalvo made that run. I understand that the Metzler threw an 80' high rooster tail of wet salt behind it as he made the run at speed!
