progressive front springs - worth doing?

Well here's my verdict ....don't bother.
I suspect that the hagon Progressives that are now in the front might be a big improvement over stock for anyone riding two-up, but for me (175lb) riding solo, I can't tell any difference from the standard Triumph ones now discarded.
Took it on the back roads and sharp bumps had me out of the seat. Don't think the progressives are getting anywhere near bottoming out, so presumably the thump must be caused by 'overdamping' (ie the oil preventing the spring compressing quickly enough). So am I right in thinking that a 5w oil might be better than the 7.5 supplied by Hagon ?

How old were the OE springs? mine were dangerously soggy & the handling was total crap by 20k Kms. Replacing with progressive springs made an amazing difference...From your comments tho, I might deduce that it's not the progressive springs per say, but the fact that the old ones were knackered.

Console yourself that you'd have had to replace them by another 10k anyway.. as they'd have died on ya unless you ride steady & gentle? Heavy side to side cornering pounds the crap outa the OE springs.

Now I am wondering as I am only 155 but have over 50K on my stock springs Maybe I will change them this winter when I have the bike torn apart and go with 5 w oil out the gate.

I've said it before, but the easy way t check your springs is to sit on the bike, hold on the frount brake & bounce your weight down on the bars. Are the forks nice & stiff? or does she bounce up & down like a rocking horse?

Hell can hardly get them to go down let alone bounce:) the only time mine go down is when I use heavy front braking like when all of a sudden a cop pops up in your view. or when the front wheel come back down out of the air. OK quit laughing :):)
