To be honest, I have never seen them mounted in front of the windscreen; that would be tough to reach...
 
After trying out a few, installed this on the handle bar next to the mirror.


No need to use rubber/silicone bands which add lot of pressure on the edges of the phone.
Has built-in USB charger and is supposed to be waterproof. The wire has in-line fuse.
 

Do you have your phone is a case and if so how does it work with the case?

Sorry, can't offer any help, but I would also like to mount my phone in there. I have seen the odd picture where the owner had it there, but I've never thought to ask. My son uses the RAM X mount on his FZ09, it's never fallen out of it.
