Park Up Slope and Use a Rear Wheel Chock When Washing

I dropped BB this morning.

I parked her in the driveway to do a wash and wax and like an idiot I parked her facing down slope. The slope is very slight, but the combination of it with me leaning on the bike a little while washing was just enough to push her right off the kickstand.

Tiny scratches on the bear claw, a crushed saddlebag, and slightly bent windscreen brackets are the result.

Oh yeah, and a nice gouge along the edge of the stem on one of my brand new elliptical mirrors that I just installed last night.

Rookie mistake...boy do I feel stupid.

Not everyone will admit to it though.
Mines been down 3 or 4 times.
once in gravel doing a real slow turn around.
once backing into a parking spot.
twice unloading from trailer.

Thanks...that's much kinder than what my wife had to say about it. Especially after I blamed the damage on her for not letting me get the front dresser bars yet .

I'm channelling all three stooges today.

While prying the windscreen brackets back into position, I failed to notice that the clutch assembly had twisted down as a result of the fall and I managed to press the nut on the bottom of the mirror stem into the side of the tank, resulting in a wonderful quarter size dent.

I think I'll put her back in the garage and leave it alone for the rest of the day before I totally destroy her...and before Robin kills me. I think she's more upset about it than I am...

Sorry to hear about the "accident". I think most of us, at one time or another, have done this. It usually happens to me when I'm in a hurry. My brain has been switched off and I'm "spring-loaded" to the DUMB position. Give yourself some time to cool off and then tackle it again. At least there were no broken bones involved (unless you keep after Missus and she takes you down)

Shoot, I laid mine down turning left out of a drive way. I just didn't give it any gas?! I rolled out, leaned to the left, and kept saying to myself "Go Idiot!" and I just didn't go.. Next thing I know, the bike is leaning too far to the left for me to get her back up. With the crown of the road, my bike was more than just laying over on it's side, it was WAY over and try as I might I just could not get her up past the center of gravity.. So, I was just sitting there holding my bike to keep it from going farther over.. Fortunately, a couple of guys came along in a car and stopped and helped me get her upright.. Luckily the bike came away with no damage..

Boy did I feel stupid though.. I've only been riding since my pre-teen years and I'm 42 now.. Must be the onset of Alzheimer's or something.. That was a few years ago though, and I haven't done it since.. lol

I dropped my first rocket over onto the left side one time as well. One of the things damaged on mine was the small linkage between the shift lever and the side of the transmission. You might want to look at yours to be sure it's ok. good luck to ya.. Rademis

Thanks for that tip. I have the foot boards, so the bars protected the shift and clutch linkage fortunately.

 

[Sidecar Flip]

The 'Tip over Bars' aka; Crash Bars make a big difference in collateral damage mitigation. I know that first hand from Eureka Springs, in the motel parking lot. With the bars, she goes over, but not all the way and nothing touches terra-firma except your libido.

Very worthwhile investment.

My problem was it was downhill and I didn't have the stones to get it back up. Certain Captains will attest to that.
