Here in Virginia you can ride to work in the morning freezing your butt off and be burning up on the ride home this time of year. Since I have always rode naked bikes I have gone home with jackets, gloves, and assorted extra gear stuffed behind the fly screen, wrapped around my waist, and packed under the seat. I was in good old "Wally World" the other day and they had back to school back packs on sale for $9.00 each. I have always seen the ****** Rocket guys wearing them but never gave one a try. Nine dollars poorer I left the store with one in hand. (I could have gotten the Barbie or Spiderman issue but I elected for good old plain black.) It was initially adjusted to fit an anorexic nine year old girl, but the straps expanded more than enough for a good fit on me. It is one of the best riding investments I have ever made. I use it continuously on short trips, grocery store runs, and anytime you need to transport items that would normally go in saddle bags. A 12 pack of Coors Light will fit but does weight you down a bit. Just FYI for the teaching Old Dogs New Tricks Group.

The hosiptal I work at past out some back packs to the Dr.'s and I nabbed a left over. It holds a bottle of wine and has a silverware set for picnics. Been thinking of sewing a Triumph patch over the hospital logo, chunking the cheap bottle of wine and silver ware and using it for the same purpose as you George. I just don't know if I can part with the $9.00
 
Per the title I thought you were puttin' the Rocket away for the Winter.. I didn't think you would do that, but we all get older..

I will say I am giving the Trophy a good going over, new coolant, brake pads, oil change, so I can woose out and use it for more of my riding during the cool/cold months here.. Okay, maybe we only have cold weeks, not months, but it still gets freakin' cold at times!.. lol
 
When I had my other bikes (other than the Venture, and the Gold Wings), the pack pack was the way to go. As mentioned the main draw back in warm weather was the "sweaty back" syndrome but it did the trick. Now that I have the Beetle Bags and the T-Bag set up (no jokes please) I'm pretty set up for trips. Since I ride solo usually I could even put that round travel bag (seen in the Nashville RAA pics) behind me on the passenger seat for even more storage if I was going cross country.

Good move Britman, it does help having something to carry around "stuff" in.

I saw a homeless guy wearing the exact same one I have the other day. They seem to popular among that crowd also.
 
Go big

On my Iron butt ride (on a sport bike) I used a smallish camelback back pack. Held my extra set of gloves and my rainsuit. Since I was endurance riding the hydration system came in way handy too. I'll never do an IBA ride without one now.
