Well good evening to everyone. I guess I will dive in to smoehting that will be extemely controversial but what the hell. I would like to know what type of oil is best for hot weather riding (Florida USA) summer 100 plus. I read Mobil 1 4t racing oil, then you read Rotella and then you read about ams Oil and of course Royal Purple. Also something just as controversial resusable oil filter or paper??? HMMMMMMM this could be interesting on the results???

As stated on this forum recently you can use Mobil racing 4T 10-40, Mobil Triumph 4T 15-50, Mobil 0-40, Amsoil 20-50. That's as far as I've gotten on experience and research with oils for the R3. As far as lifetime filters I just recently posted this thread on these filters with pics http://www.r3owners.com/viewtopic.php?t ... highlight=

Basically I stick with the OEM recommendation since their engineers worked out the lubricant shear stress loading equations and I didn't. If you go with a different oil the results may be good or an engine rebuild, there's not much in between for just OK. The stock oil is supposed to work under the widest variety of temperatures and load extremes without adverse consequences, but that doesn't mean you can't find a better lubricant, just be careful of what you use. My 2 pennies worth.

Oil is Oil....whatever brand makes you happy as long as it meets factory specs; just change at regular intervels and keep it clean. Otherwise who gives a rats ass about brand. Buy what is on sale. 8)

Oil

I like the specs of Rotella 5w40 full syn. After researching oils a few years ago I discovered that there really are differences in motor oil. Most auto companies recommend light weight oils so they can claim higher mpgs. and less emissions from using oils with less lubricating qualities.
What I found was that heavy equipment oil specs require better lubricating qualities and they are less concerned about fuel mileage and emissions. I think any oil that can take care of high temp diesel engines with turbos that spin impellers 100,000 rpms can provide lubrication for any gas engine.
