Oil Leak / Pinhole in block

Well at least so far the Dealership seems to be behind me 100%

Here is the Email that was sent to Triumphs regional manager

Jay - Service Dept is hustling on this one. However, we have an upset customer that so far is happy with Cycle Specialties but does not want this bike. We put him back on his Rocket III Tourer for the time being.

What do we do with this? I am being told we still have not solved the problem, but that we have also discovered an actual pinhole in the bikes head. (not a gasket, the head itself)

You and I have discussed this customer before. Please consider this officially escalated to you, our Regional manager.

This bike appears to be a POS.

Will Triumph make this easy or hard for our customer who just bought his second Triumph Rocket III?

I am stuck between a rock and a hard spot. How do I advise my customer?

Please let me know what the process is for our customer to officially request the return of this motorcycle.
 
Reread this thread and can't believe I didn't realize the leak was in the head and not the block. The picture clearly shows it's the head and I missed it.

Anyway Jim, I have to agree with others. This is a fairly simple fix, and IMHO no where near as concerning as a pinhole or crack in your block. I know you've had a lot of problems with your roadster, but I really doubt that you'll get a refund or replacement bike. Just saying...

I've been trying to go down the lemon law route with my boat. Paid over 50k for it and have had nothing but serious problems. Been in and out of the shop more times than I can count and I just bought the **** thing in March. Both the dealer and manufactuer are saying the same thing - we don't do refunds or replacements.
Arrrgh! I know what you're going through.

Like I mentioned earlier, the leaky head isn't a terrible issue. Your shop should be able to replace the head and stepper motor in a couple days; they just need the parts. Then you'll be good to go.

If I end up with a good running bike with no problems, I'll be satisfied, however I have 3 existing problems none of which have been resolved yet.

Check engine light on ( stepper motor ?)
Intermittent stalling while downshifting ( safety issue IMHO )
Oil leak

It's been back to the shop four times already for the first two problems. With no resolution.

I'm sure ill get the bike back, but if it still isn't fixed it will be lemon law and attorney time

Remember, what's the lemon law for motor cycles in CA?

Don't just walk away happy if repaired. I'm telling you get them to put an extended warranty on the bike. They will buckle for that.

And the Dealer is only going to do so much. As long as it's not coming out of their pocket.

And Triumph (as most manufacturers) you are just a number. And the Triumph Rep is evaluated on policy expenses.

When I bought the bike I purchased the extended warranty which added 5 years to Triumphs 2 yr factory warranty, so maybe I'll try to get them to reimburse the cost of the warranty.


California lemon law states that 4 unsuccessful attempts to repair something that affects the reliability, safety, or resale value of a vehicle before 18 months or 18000 miles makes the owner eligible for reimbursement.
 
No-one here can really say for sure that a replacement bike will not be offered. I had a semi-serious issue at 2,000klms on a 2007 Dyna I bought new. Harley were very close to offering me a replacement machine. Partly due to the fact it would have required Harley to send a tech up to do the work needed to rectify the problem. None of the mechanics at the Dealership in Darwin were able to assure me they could do the job. Don't give up until you are confident the bike will be what you paid for Jim.

****, you did your homework. I think it will be hard to unwind the extended warranty from the deal. Maybe some accessories? Get something out of them.

Triumph really stepped up!!

So herein lies the rub.....
Do I take the 2013 matte black they have in the shop, or do I wait for another 2014 phantom black and red?
