Dumped the oil today with the help of my good Indian riding friend. He's also a 35 year aviation, airframe and power plant tech. First we installed the JBQ lifting bracket that was not quite as easy as I thought it would be but is really cool. It is best a two man job.
As I feared, two of the oil drain plugs were way over tightened by the dealership, with the two sump washers damaged. My friend Cameron put a lot of beef into the wrench before the forward one finally broke free. The rear sump plug was not so tight but way over torqued. The oil bag allen head bolt was damaged though and we had to tap the allen wrench into it to get a good enough purchase to break it free. Getting it out after insert and torquing it down was equally difficult.
Fortunately the two 14mm washers purchased at West Bay for $1.00 each fitted just fine for the sump plugs. They have a lightly larger OD but fit nicely up into the recessed oil drain plug cut out.
The washer I bought at the defunct dealership, with the filter, was about the same diameter as the stock sump washers, but thicker. The oil bag washer was in good shape though so I reused it. The filter was also way over tightened.
We torqued all of the plugs to the specified 18 ft pounds and after about a 10 mile ride I have no leaks.
THIS IS WHY I ALWAYS CHANGE MY OIL. Darn ham fisted shop mechanics.
So, I need a new oil bag drain bolt. I think I've seen magnetic ones so I'll be looking for one.
