I picked up my 06- RIII at the local dealer after having the idle recall done and he tried to upsell me a oil change.
I have only 4000 miles on myRIII, the dealer said he recommended an oil change every 3-4000 miles. The manual says every 10000 miles.
How often do you other Captains change the oil?

If you did the 500 mile change and used the Mobil synthetic, I can't imagine why you would need it. Synthetics claim to be good for that long.

My owners manual has a place for a 6000 mile service stamp but I don't know what gets done.

Good to change it once a year, whether you do big millage or not.
Once it is out of warranty, you can do it yourself for half the cost.
But for peace of mind, its worth having it done

I'm with Wing. You harder and frequent riders should change more often than 10k. Here's what I suggest. After the breakin oil change at 500 miles, use standard non-synthetic oil to ensure complete break-in (Honda brand for Gold Wings is fine). Then switch to the full sythetic Mobil1 or equivalent at 3000 miles. After that I change about every 6000 to 8000 miles on the Rocket because I put on a lot of hard miles.

2 to 3k is kinda frequent for full synthetic but we won't blame ya GMan for lovin' your girl with good and frequent lubing. Everybody's got a fetish.

I also change the rear gear oil at the same time as the engine oil.

I do the same now with this bike that I've always done.

Look at the manufacturers recommended oil change intervals, then halve it. Always change the filters each time too, doesn't cost much & errs heavily on the side of safety.

I do the same as Owl.... In my Speed Triple (factory recommended service interval 6000 miles) I always changed the oil at 3000 miles.

I know the oil is expensive, but so is the bike. Cheap insurance really.
