Oil Change - To Jack or Not to Jack...

When doing an oil and filter change do you folks:

a) Jack up the entire bike with a motorcycle jack;
b) Raise the rear of the bike with a rear wheel stand;
c) Leave the bike leaning on the sidestand; or
d) None of the above.

I put mine on the atv jack I've got,
to level it up, then drain it.
Pull all three drain plugs,
1 at a time of course, then the filter.

i use a 2x4 under the kickstand and then drain my oil

..I leave it on the kick stand..then, once it's drained. I hold the bike upright by the handlebars, rock it back and forth a couple of times to help get a little more out..you're not gonna get all of the old oil out anyway..

+1 on the wheel chock. Got the heavy duty wheel chock at Harbor Freight for $40 (Super Coupon).

I put mine on a motorcycle lift with the front wheel in a vise to hold the bike upright. I then use Flipmeisters Paddock stand to get it level (since the rear tire remains on the table with my setup). THat way it's very stable before I go yanking and cranking on over torqued hardware.

Since I have a Rivco center stand, I use it. Flips paddock stand is a must if you do you own work and don't have a center stand. A center stand or paddock stand will allow you to remove either wheel, change oil or just make for a solid platform for whatever work your doing.
They are a worthwhile investment for storage as well, takes the load off the tires and suspension.

atomsplitter, i'm guessing that my rocket III classic will fit on my handy lift then? i haven't tried it yet, but it lifts my harley streetglide just fine.

The oil drain pan that I have is a little tall; so I place a 12" x 12" patio stone in front of each wheel and then drive the Rocket up on them (only 1.5" or so tall - the patio stones). Then place a piece of 2x4" under the kickstand. More than enough clearance after that.
