Has anyone tried using one of the OBDII apps for Android/IPad on there R3?

I am running a R3T and have only a speedometer and fuel gauge and would love to have a tachometer at the least. It also seems cool to me to have a GPS/mapping device running that runs Google Maps while road tripping. Not that I need that, just I ride with a lot of BMW guys and that would be the biggest farkle that any of them have. Bragging rights, right?

So I have been thinking something along the lines of one of the bluetooth OBDII gizmos to connect the bike to a small tablet that has been mounted to the handle bars and run an app like Torque or something similar. I just don't want to buy all the parts and find it doesn't work.

I guess the important bit is are the R3's OBDII?

Thanks!!

Yes, they are OBD2. I have connected a Scangauge 2 to the OBD2 port to get RPM, water temp, open/closed loop, and other various readings from time to time.

You can't really rely on the connection for a tach as the refresh rate is too slow to be of much use.

Got one last week and works fine still playing around with it. Using torque with bluetooth Will post more later with links

GP, is that the refresh rate of the scan gauge or the OBDII connection?

Good question, I'm not sure where the limitation lies. The Scangauge has two settings for refresh rate, normal and fast. Set to fast it is anything but. Perhaps other tools will work better.

I have used the Torque app on Android... very good app that shows tons of info, maps trips with information, and many other cool features. Even got the cheap $16 bluetooth reader to use with it and works great. Just search for the ELM 327 bluetooth device. I have not tried it on the rocket yet, but it has worked on a Hyundai, Ford truck, Escalade, and a Denali.

Torque for Android and the ELM 327 device works great.
