Here is rhe latest. That buddy of mine came over and hooked up a dial indicator . I had to put the diveshaft back on so we could rotate the output shaft. It took awhile of head and ass scratching to figure out where to hook it up. The cross piece above the starter was the only relieable spot he could find.
Anyhow after all that work it took maybe two minutes to check. >>>>Results are that I had between 4 to 6 thousands movement . In otherwords the bearing and shaft are not wobbling. That was a load off my mmind.
Next seeing as we have good sunlight today I took the driveshaft outside. One side of the U joint is flopping much more than the other. What I found was that grease had come out past the seals. If was one of my old cars ,I would pack it with heavy grease , and put it back in. This is not one of my old junkers , and I am not 19 anymore. I wonder why they do not put in a carrier bearing for the driveshaft . Would save a lot of stress on the Ujoint, and it it did give way it would not destroy the tranny.
I will order a replacement in a few minutes off of Ebay.
While I am at it I will pull the starter again, and reclean the battery contact . This time I will spray it with the battery post paint.
