Noisy Tranny .

I am going to take the u-joint apart tomorrow. I want to check it also take some m,easurementsto try and find a replacement. The deale wants $355 for a new unit. I am looking at a used one for much less.
BTW : I had the whel up ofv the lift and ran it in second. With clutch engaged no noise? No wheel movement either.

I have had the same trouble with my exhaust heat shields coming loose and rattling. I say that you could go to an old head auto parts store and find a match for your universal joint most of these kids that work in these parts stores don't know what universal joint is the would probably hand you a fuse

Here is rhe latest. That buddy of mine came over and hooked up a dial indicator . I had to put the diveshaft back on so we could rotate the output shaft. It took awhile of head and ass scratching to figure out where to hook it up. The cross piece above the starter was the only relieable spot he could find.
Anyhow after all that work it took maybe two minutes to check. >>>>Results are that I had between 4 to 6 thousands movement . In otherwords the bearing and shaft are not wobbling. That was a load off my mmind.
Next seeing as we have good sunlight today I took the driveshaft outside. One side of the U joint is flopping much more than the other. What I found was that grease had come out past the seals. If was one of my old cars ,I would pack it with heavy grease , and put it back in. This is not one of my old junkers , and I am not 19 anymore. I wonder why they do not put in a carrier bearing for the driveshaft . Would save a lot of stress on the Ujoint, and it it did give way it would not destroy the tranny.
I will order a replacement in a few minutes off of Ebay.
While I am at it I will pull the starter again, and reclean the battery contact . This time I will spray it with the battery post paint.

So I gather by that you could find a compatable item??
What were the sizes, or better still, the part number. Please share with us.

What I found was a driveshaft with 7K miles on it. Instad of the $387.00 at the dealer ,it will be 153 delivered .
I am still going to try andfind a Ujoinr replacement. Tried to disassemble , but no luck. Wil;l not break lose with my 12 ton press. Going to give it to a buddy with a machine shop. I will pass along any info I get.

As it turns out , my problem was a sloppy driveshaft U-joint slapping againt the swing arm tunnel.

I am not sure who it was that suggested I pull the oil pan to check the screens. Today I did, and was really surprised at the amount of metal I found in them. This is after I dissected the filter and found nothing.
The back screen was at least 50% clogged with fine metal pieces that looked like they are chrome flakes. It may be from the bearings , or could be from sides of the cylinder walls when it was breaking in. No matter what the cause the engine & tyranny were not getting the oil they were suppose to.
Anyhow I am going to pick up a new gasket this afternoon. Mine did not hold up . I do believe that I am going to do like I used on the Moto Guzzis ,pull the pan , then I can pull the pan at the next oil change. I believe it would be a good idea to monitor the trash in the screens

last time i heard a noisy tranny......i punched the fag in the face...seemed to shut it up quickly
