Noisy Engine

Anybody had any problems with a horrible noise coming from the timing chain tensioner area/ front of the engine??. My bike is an 05 with only 6000 miles on it. A little suprised that this machine can,t last more than this with out a major engine problem. I,ve already suffered a noisy leaking diff. Any suggestions before I throw this pile in the river

How long have you had the Rocket? Six thousand miles in four years is very "light" riding even by Hardley standards.

Your bike (if you are the original owner) is out of warranty but there are plenty of threads on here that have shown that Triumph will usually do "good will" out of warranty repairs on bikes that may have the symtoms you describe. I would check with your dealer to see about getting that done "if" you are elgible.

I'm trying to relieve the man of one continuous problem after another.
He don't need the headache and would be better off without this problem.
Don't add insult to his injury.
You can see hes already been down a very bothersome road, poor fellow,
if you want to help, then encourage him to sell it cheap to me and maybe I can do something with it to make it almost road worthy.

deserttony, youve got yourself a timing chain, spocket(s), and tensioner issue. A dealer with a good service department will readily identify the problem as such. If I'm not mistaken, the '05s and certain '07s (silver engines) have this ailment. I have one of the later models and it was half-assed attended to. Th.e upper sprocket is now quite audible; but alas, my local dealer service dept is overwhelmed with too makes and models leading to too little experience with the finer points of the Rocket III.
Tony, is the noise variable: At and during early warm up is the noise most audible? Does it persist at the same level continuously? Upon hard or light acceleration early on?
Mine is generally early on and under both light or hard acceleration.

At the very least, take it in and raise the complaint. It may cost you the time for an analysis and you have a record of it being done.

I think its time for poll; though this may have occurred I'm caught in my unawares. Who has with what year model had a timing chain/sprocket replacement. We need to nail it down and promote a recall. Although, unless its a dire safety issue I doubt the Obama administration and the corporate oligarchy will back a bailout for the common folk.

Deserttony- Search "paint can rattle" or "upgrade kit" Triumph should take care of everything no cost even outside of warranty. If a dealer tells you otherwise go to another dealer.

05 Rocket with 6000miles making a noise this is an easy one, the bloody engine has rusted away with lack of use.
I do not know what is worse an engine with higher than average miles or an engine with next to no miles????????????
