it has a security system and a battery minder

Do you have the "factory" alarm? I ordered one on the 2006 I have - it is a "DataTool" alarm. Haven't been able to program the code to unlock the beast - first step in the instructions say "Locate the inline fuse on the brown wire" or something like that. Peering in the battery compartment and under the tank has not been fruitful.

DataTool alarm provides ability to put bike in Service mode to remove the battery (If needed). I've swapped batteries using backup juice - as I didn't want to lock myself out - hopeful you are able to start the beast?

If not DataTool alarm - what do you have?

... and WELCOME! Brains (not mine) hang out in this forum! VERY useful!

Problem sorted, the battery was stuffed, with the new battery in she's purring again, I don't understand why the jumper didn't work, but I'm a happy puppy again. Cheers.
