Reading about this is some AWESOME stuff! I just had to throw in my experience with a rescue dog.
Through the years of vacationing in Mexico, we have seen MANY stray and starving dogs.
One year we drove our car all the way to Manzanillo. We couldn't take it any more and since we then had the opportunity, we smuggled one home over the border. She was so weak she couldn't even bark allowing us to get away with sneaking her into hotels for several nights and across the border.
Chica was ours for over five years. Before she died, she had been nailed by our original Chihuahua, Tito. Her two girls, Selma and Weezy are still with us.

Just about all of our pets have come from rescues with the exception of our first Dane when we were married in 1978. The two pictured in my icon pic were both rescued but Zeus, the one with the pointy ears went through 5 homes before he settled in with us. Xena, the one standing over me, was found wandering the streets. after a 2 day search for her owners and finally locating them, Xena just wanted to live with us so we took her over with no objections from her previous owner. She was glad to go. She weighed only 94 lbs. She now weighs 147 lbs, where she should be. And those names just happened to be their real names. Coincidence, huh? There is a special place for those who rescue animals and I applaud those that do.

1BigDog,
Anyone using a pix of their dogs for an avatar is a definite major dog lover in my book.
As you can see by my avatar, I am not in your league as I love my motors just a little more.

Just got back from a few hours down at the Kalgan river with Manson. Those that know dogs claim he's 6 to 8 months old, so far he hasn't put a foot wrong. Does as he's told , loves the back of the ute and seems friendly to smaller dogs. Test will be tomorrow when he meets up with Kobi .. she can be a cantankerous ***** if she wants. Few snarls and a couple of **** , they'll sort it out.

Here is Tango our Tenterfield Terrier ,we also rescued him from Forster NSW he was hanging around the tourist Park we stayed at, and the Manager kept him for a week and as he was not micro chipped he was off to the pound the day we rescued him ,a free dog but! micro chip , blood test ,needles and desexing he is a $700 dog now but worth every cent, he is now our little mate ,
