Could try the sort of config used by VW - not so much a V but close to inline with just enough offset to allow the cylinders to nestle into each other. That's how they got a W8 - 2 banks of very narrow Vs. A 2.8 V6 from my Bora wouldn't be much bigger than our 2.3 triples but has 150KW and 300nM.
have you got a"Maserati Bora"!!, weren't they a V8:confused:
 
The guy was blowing smoke up your arse :D everyone knows that the next Triumph engine is a V12 stuck in the bonnie frame with the fairy looking led lights installed all around it, plus it will get 65mpg:)
The old Triumph straight six was a good engine (fo 153624) the inline three looks ugly enough just imagine what a straight six would look like.:eek:
