Neutral issue

Not a terribly helpful comment in a thread about finding neutral, but I figure you'll want to get out again at some point.

Checking the freeplay on the clutch a bit more closely (i.e. with a ruler) I had about 5mm. Tightened it down to closer to 2 and voila! Neutral seems to be available now.
Naturally I'll need to do some road testing, but now the dilemma is whether or not to tell my wife I no longer need to take a few hours to ride down to the dealership. There's always something to buy when I go...

Bike is 2009 with aprox 20K on the clock. Been a bit tough to get into Neutral at rest recently and then last night impossible to find Neutral at rest. Once bike is turned off it goes into but stubbornly. No issue with Neutral when bike is moving coming to a light etc.

Tightened up the cable a touch but left about 1/8-1/4 of an inch of free play as I made the error of over tightening the cable last season and ended up snapping the throw out pin crazy set up in the front of the clutch so always very careful of the play to be left in cable.

I am not hard on a clutch at all so looking for thoughts. Oil looks good (I find that older oil makes the bike shift a touch harder..mobile 1 in sump)

Bike shifts fine, no issues ever so thinking two thoughts....either the clutch is just seen better days which I kinda doubt as I am not tough on it, or there is a gear box issue.

Hi guys, I have a similar problem. When I stop at traffic lights it is v hard to find Neutral especially from first gear up to neutral unless I switch her off. Switching in to Other gears are v.noisy. I tried to adjust cable but when I adjusted for easy switch to neutral from 1st gear, clutch starts to slip on hard exceleration and when I leave 2mm cable slack ( at the top) as per manual it is almost impossible to find Neutral from first gear when bike is not moving unless I switch her off. I tried to adjust cable nob by ¼ turns on cold and hot engine still could not find that perfect point. Sorry for such along thread. Any ideas how to fix that? Stretched cable? Need new clutch?
