Need Some Help- Shades of Lucas

Well the "Fat Bottom Girl" is on the trailer and heading to the Dealer this morning. It's a 125 mile trip one way but I trust the mechanic and Dealership. The sad thing is he is giving up the Triumph brand within the next year. Seems the small dealerships are becoming a thing of the past as the brand name grows. The bike died yesterday in rush hour traffic and I barely got it back home. The symptoms are more prevalent now so hopefully the problem can be found. I will post the results when I know........

Sorry to hear of the troubles, George. Did you pull the fault code when the engine light was on?

If it is fairly straightforward, can you disconnect the GiPro from the bike? If that doesn't help, can you separate the PCIII?

I can't remember if you have Tuneboy or not. If not, I can run over with my TuneECU setup and we can save what you have and possibly load a new tune set up for the triples and Jars and eliminate the PCIII and GiPro altogether.

Thanks for the offer but the bike is already in Norfolk and hopefully be diagnosed next week. Thankfully it wouldn't run at all when I pulled it off the trailer, so hopefully the problem will be located.

I'm not familiar with the GiPro and what it interfaces with, but, if it were mine and I was having this problem, I would disconnect the power from that and see what happens. The reasoning is that if it were a simple loss of power to the bike the GiPro would simply reboot, but its not just rebooting. You said it is going through all the gears and such, which leads me to believe that isn't normal behavior (you wouldn't likely have noted it if it was). Run it long enough to feel comfortable that was/wasn't the fix. If that isn't it, do the PCIII. Move one step at a time back to stock, or as close as you can get.

This seems well worth trying before doing anything else more extreme.

Well I got a call from the mechanic yesterday. Seems like the main 30 amp fuse slot had a short in the fuse box. (At least I know I was somewhat on the right track.) He has cut the wires and ran an outside circuit complete with a new in line fuse holder. According to him he has seen this issue on a frequent basics with the speed triples but this is the first Rocket to have the problem. The damage can be caused by vibration or just excessive heat on the system via the ignition switch and could have been lurking prior to the Eastern Beaver install. He is keeping the bike until next week and riding the piss out of it to make sure the problem is solved. "IF" this is all that was causing my turmoil I am a **** happy man but unfortunately doesn't look like I will be having any Rocket seat time this holiday weekend. Have a safe and fun filled Labor Day one and all...........

Well I picked the FBG up from the Dealer today and brought her back home. Went for about a 30 mile run this afternoon and she ran perfect. I put a couple of extra 30 amp fuses in the storage compartment just to be sure. She was really glad to be home with her sisters.........

The good thing is the FBG is running better than ever, pulls strong with no hesitation and starts right up. The bad, the headlights are still doing some screwy things, for example, at times there is a hesitation between high and low beam, a second or two at most when you hit the dimmer. Occasionally the lights will go completely off, particularly when you get on the throttle, it is not for long and they come right back on. I have sent an email to Jim at Eastern Beaver, thinking I may have a relay starting to go or the 5a fuse slot in the block is also shot. Nothing like British bikes to keep you guessing. The irony is I re-wired the 64 in the picture to include an original headlight switch and everything works perfectly. Oh well, I am too **** old for much night riding anymore, just so she keeps running I am a happy man. I am looking at new Roadster however if she does leave me again. Now I am going to go have a couple of cold beers to cure all of my motorcycle troubles and start a great weekend......
