First of all, TuneECU is awesome. If you're the least bit computer and mechanically inclined, you should have TuneECU.

My bike has been surging at cruise speeds for a while, and I was finally tired of it. My dealer is only an hour away, but I have had little luck with them troubleshooting anything. Everyone says TPS.. TPS.. but thinking back to carb days, throttle bodies being out of synch can cause this too.

So I wiped and loaded an old laptop I have with Windows XP, and followed the intructions to load TuneECU and associated components. Once hooked to my bike, TuneECU picked up the ECU right away.

PAIN 1 - You have to remove all of the intake plumbing to get to the throttle body synch screws!!! ( Triple K&Ns in the near future! ) Which isn't bad.. but then you have to put it all back on!! Anyway, TuneECU is awesome and I was able to get the throttle bodies synched spot on.

Since I was there, I figured I would try and load a new map and see if I could get rid of my PC-III. I researched a few and ended up choosing Power-Tripp R3 TORs with underseat K&N off of the TuneECU custom maps site. I am running Jardines, but the only Jardine tunes I've been able to find were for 3 K&N filters, which is a big difference in air. I looked the settings over and was happy, so I loaded this tune. Then took the bike for a spin.. ( still mostly unassembled.. lol... luckily I didn't suck a bird or something into the intake!..) The bike ran much better.. with more popping on decel than I would like, but I figured once I got the intake plumbing back on that would calm down a bit..

I got back and decided the bike was running good enough to put back together, so I got her all bolted up ( one of the dang clamps on the plumbing took me 45 freakin' minutes to tighten! One tiny turn at a time with an allen wrench! ) Then took the bike for another longer run.. with varying speeds up to about 90... and the bike is running great!.. I think this tune loses a some on the low end that I had before, so I once I spring for 3 K&N's I'll probably look for a better tune, but right now it's running better than it has in quite a while.. Just in time for a road trip to Shreveport, LA in a couple of weeks.. :)
