RUNS LIKE A ROLLS ROYCE NOW!
New R3 owner this year. Bought a new 2014 in March 2015.
It has been an interesting year - and a lot of that has to with the Rocket. I was done with motorcycles. I had ridden a Sprint ST 2002 for 12 years and it was a superbly satisfying relationship. Never dropped her and she never leaked or burned a drop of oil. Tires and batteries are all I ever had to replace.
. . . and then I saw my Rocket. Holy cow. I know people on this board like Triumphs and Rockets - but I never had any experience like this from anything in my life. I loved my Sprint, but my 2014 R3 Roadster is just ridiculously fantastic to ride, to look at , to work on and there is nothing like it on the wide open roads of the Pacific Northwest - it moves out and cars move over. I love the heft of it - the presence of it. There are not too many people who ride them here and the reaction I get from people is just so satisfying. People just stop what they are doing and shake their head in disbelief and lust. I recently had it dyno tuned with no mods just stock air intake, stock exhaust and it runs so smooth now - like a massive turbine.
I have seen some people on this board compare it to the super duke 1290 and compare it negatively as it is not as sophisticated. And technically they are correct. But the Spitfire from WWII is not sophisticated any more either. But who the hell wouldn't want one? All my mechanic at the dyno tune had to say was "it is crazy the way they built this thing" and "she's pretty" over and over. He tunes the most sophisticated race bikes for a living. He just was in awe of it. He loved working on it and just loved the way it looked and just kept going on about it.
Some day they will stop making the R3 Roadster. But I will still have mine.
