That "A" position is important on a two lane two way roadway. If there are two lanes in your direction and you ride the right hand lane, the "C" position is best for the leader.
When we ride staggered formation on a multiple lane roadway in the left most lane as a group, the leader rides in the "C" position for best view.
When changing to the adjacent right lane, the leader moves to the "A" position and the following riders adjust their stagger positions accordingly.
