Million mile Man

That's some achievement. I did almost 250,000 km (150,000 miles) in 4 years on a 750/4 in the early 80s. Mainly commuting nearly 1,000 a week to work but many many weekend jaunts too. Memories. Probably done about the same again on all other bikes over 40 + years. Rocket nudging 60,000 in 3 years.

If he's been riding since he was 16, that would be an average of over 53K miles per year for 47 years.

Well, I've seen guys do 100,000+ in a year when they didn't do much of anything else, so I suppose its possible. And as a former politician, most folks would suspect that he wasn't doing very much, so maybe he's had the time for this for 47 straight years.

Frankly, those of us who did not keep track may just be better at math and extrapolation.

But then again, if you break it down by the day rate, its just shy of 150 miles a day for only 17,155 days straight. You don't get this kind of mileage by riding to your speeches.

The BMW Motorcycle Owners Club has an annual contest and an accumulated miles list. In the history of the Clubs 36 pages of records, there are maybe 10 who have broken 1M miles, and only maybe 3 that have reached 1.25M.

You can interpret this however you want, but the likelihood of a 63 year old guy who has had an active job for most of his life reaching double the highest levels recorded in the BMW MOC must fall somewhere between zero and epsilon.

Gotta say my inner statistician is somewhat sceptical too - although it is really only 3hrs/day at 50mph. I've done (on several occassions) 1600km (1000mi)in a day driving from Port Headland to Perth so it wouldn't be hard to do that in a week. It's just that you' have to do that every week for 50yrs......?

But, the real point of contention for me is the claim that he did 1 million miles on one bike and that bike was a Harley - not enough oil in the world for a Harley to travel the many miles

Why would a politician lie, that's un-American... i don't know i have two buddies who made it back from Vietnam that are wound up pretty tight, they both are constantly driven to doing something weather it's traveling all over the globe or riding their motorcycles. Neither one of them can sit still for more than five minutes.. Some of us take life for granted , some of us are granted a second chance at life.
